A landscape like no other
The Alvord Desert is a 12-mile long alkaline playa in Harney County, Oregon, resting in the rain shadow of Steens Mountain. When dry, the lakebed becomes a vast, cracked expanse of white that stretches to the horizon—a surreal and otherworldly landscape.
We chose this location because it represents the vast, open possibilities of our future together. The stark beauty and infinite horizon feel like the perfect backdrop for beginning our married life.
The playa sits at about 4,000 feet elevation. Temperatures can vary dramatically—warm days and cool nights are common. The landscape is flat, dry, and incredibly photogenic.
The area is home to several natural hot springs, including Alvord Hot Springs just off the playa. After the celebration, a soak under the stars is highly recommended.
